Georgia Appalachian Trail Club hosts more than 100 activities each year for club members and prospective members.  Pre-registration is required, as some locations limit the number of daily visitors.  Descriptions below offer a glimpse of the available activities.  Please see the calendar of events for more details.

Day Hikes

Friends hiking the Georgia ATWhat's your favorite time of year to hike in the woods?  Spring, summer, fall, winter?  We've got you covered.  Kick-off the New Year with a hike to the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness Area in North Carolina, or stay closer to home with our Intown Series hike to Laurel Ridge Trail.  With all of the hikes we offer, you're sure to find one that's just right for you, no matter which season you love.

Backpacking Trips

BackpackingThese overnight excursions, led by experienced GATC volunteers, feature two and three-day trips on the Georgia Appalachian Trail and a variety of nearby trails.  Each trip is rated according to distance, pace and terrain, so you'll have a good idea what to expect once you're on the trail. If you're new to backpacking or need to brush up on your skills, be sure to check out our annual backpacking clinics.

Canoe & Kayak Outings

CanoeEnjoy our beginner canoe and kayak trips as we paddle down the watery trails of the Okefenokee Swamp or float down a class-1 mountain river. Take a group lesson and learn to paddle a flat-bottom kayak on a quiet lake. According to the trip leader, his kayaks do not turn over.  Pack a lunch and your swimsuit and enjoy a picnic on a sandy secluded shore.

Bike Rides

Silver Comet Trail Bike RideThe  Silver Comet Trail is a paved pathway, following an old railroad line that runs from Atlanta to Alabama.  Enjoy this group bike ride that avoids cars and steep hills, while offering a great way to increase your cycling skills.  You decide how many miles you want to ride and whether you want to participate in an overnight camping option.

Other Activities

GATC offers a variety of other activities through the year that include a Spring Picnic, intown walks and historical tours, and the annual Holiday Party.
